It didnt seem stressful at the time, but it definitely does now!What inspired you to shoot the portraits in black and white against a stark white background?It was primarily a technical decision. I knew I wanted the portraits have an Avedonlike style to them, and had bought a custom piece of waterproof white seamless (a white background you can roll up) to shoot against. You should of seen me riding down the replica Omega watches mountain with the roll of seamless, two light stands, a tripod, and two camera bags. But luckily I didnt fall.Anyway, Mt. Baker is known to have spotty/overcast weather, and since it was a multiday shoot, I knew it would be a nightmare to have to match a variety of lighting/weather conditions.
There was a big white stationing tent at the top of the course, and it was the perfect diffusionstill nice and bright, and it provided this very even, almost flat, shadowless look, which I was after. So I couldnt have been happier. Plus, it didnt matter how bright or dark it was outside, I just adjusted my exposure times, but the quality of light remained replica Tag Heuer watches constant.What did you learn from this shoot?I learned that, according to my lady friend, all pro snowboarders seem have soulful, cutting eyes.Aside from this big revelation, this project showed that, as a photographer, if youve got vision of a project, even if you cant get backing for it—from magazines, companies, whatever—still go out and shoot it. Fulfill that vision you have. More often than not, especially for young photographers, youve gotta make the first move, and complete the initiative, to make things happen.What current projects are you working on?
I just finished two separate projects, which I shot during my third bicycle trip across America this past summer. The first project, Pontiac Dream, is a commentary on the transition of our countrys identity—a look into the ways of our past, searching for the seeds of our future. The second, Visual Diary is kind of a running visual recollection about the replica IWC watches experience of biking across the country with friends. Those are now up on jakestangel. As for the future: Im very interested in American industrial/trade history, and will be shooting a documentary project on former U.S.
